Fall 2020 Classes for children and adults
Acting for the Camera (Middle School to adult)
What better time to work on acting for the camera than during COVID via online camera?!! Apply unique approaches to film scenes, auditions, cold readings, reaction shots/B roll, and using a teleprompter. Students will be given a variety of short film scenes and monologues as material for the course. Course combines Stanislavski based acting concepts with specific film technique from Tony Barr, cold reading technique from Margie Haber and other industry specific techniques. Previous acting training is encouraged but not required. 1 hour weekly sessions. Class runs 10 weeks. Classes are limited to 8 students in order to be interactive, stay focused and work on a personal level. Cost is $195.
Music Theatre Workshop (ages 8-13)
Sing and dance your COVID blues away in Music Theatre workshop! Workshop is designed for indoor home spaces, so students can have the best of an on stage experience with a zoom setting. We'll work on music and choreography for at least 2 musical numbers from a hit Broadway show. Each workshop includes 2 one-on-one coaching sessions to rehearse and record music. The final performance will be live, but I will assemble the various solo recordings for a group recorded performance. 3 45min sessions/week plus 2 15min private coaching sessions throughout the course for 4 weeks. Workshop is limited to 8 students in order to be interactive, stay focused and work on a personal level. Cost: $195
Scene Study (3rd-6th grade)
Jump into a different world be learning how to transform into a different character in a scene. Students will learn and apply acting concepts from Konstantin Stanislavski and Uta Hagen in order to build a believable character in scene work. In each class, we will warm up together, play some theatre games, experiment with acting techniques and rehearse scenes that are chosen from provided materials. All scenes are from Broadway and off Broadway plays as well as films and television shows. Students will perform their scenes via zoom in the final class. Acting concepts learned in class go hand in hand with literary analysis and writing skills. Weekly 1 hour sessions for 10 weeks. Classes are limited to 8 students in order to be interactive, stay focused and work on a personal level. Cost: $180
Intro to Acting (1st-3rd grade)
Take your pretend to a new level by learning acting techniques and performing short scenes! Students will learn and apply key acting concepts from Konstantin Stanislavski and Uta Hagen in order to build a believable character in short scenes. In each class, we will warm up together, play some theatre games, experiment with acting techniques and rehearse scenes that are chosen from provided materials. Students will perform their scenes via zoom in the final class. All scenes are from Broadway and off Broadway plays as well as films and television shows. Acting concepts learned in class go hand in hand with reading comprehension and writing skills. Class meets twice a week in 45min sessions for 6 weeks. Classes are limited to 8 students in order to be interactive, stay focused and work on a personal level. Students must be able to read. Cost: $185
Storybook Theatre (ages 5-9)
Who doesn't love to act out their favorite stories> In Storybook Theatre, students will engage with a classic story, then apply theatre concepts to become the characters in that story and act it out together. We'll start with warm-ups and imagination exercises, dig into the story, experiment with key concepts, then perform it together (ending with a curtain call of course)! Each class will focus on a new story. Classes are 45min on zoom and will run once a week for 12 weeks. Classes are limited to 8 students in order to be interactive, stay focused and work on a personal level. Cost is $168.
Lunchtime Stories with Miss Gretchen (all ages)
Are you trying to figure out what to do with your kid for an hour and fifteen minute lunch period this Fall? Join me for lunchtime stories! I will read all my favorites (and yours too) and project the illustrations with my new document camera for a more interactive experience. There will be a discussion time after each story and lots of character voices! Story sessions will be 30min from 12:15-12:45pm. Cost is $5-7 per session depending on number of sessions per week.
